Medical Assistant's

The medical assistants have the responsibility of escorting the patients to the exam room and obtaining the their vital statistics. They also review the patients medications to make sure everything in their record is up to date. In consideration of the medications patients are prescribed by Dr. Mandel, he must also know what else is being prescribed by other physicians to evaluate possible interactions. Patients should always be sure to let the medical assistant know if there have been any changes in their medication. If a patient is on a variety of different prescriptions, it's a good idea to always have a list which captures the name of the drug, why it's taken, and at what dosage. This not only helps us in our office but any doctor or facility the patient visits for medical care.

The medical assistants are also in the office to help patients complete the Health Assessment Questionnaire or HAQ. This questionnaire helps both the patient and the doctor to evaluate current health status against previous visits and under current therapy. Medical assistants distribute educational pamphlets, educate patients on how to self inject various medications, process prescription refills including obtaining any necessary pharmacy plan authorizations. They also obtain authorization for treatments plans or diagnostic tests which are ordered by the doctor or the Physician Assistant.

Both of Dr. Mandel's medical assistants are trained in the field of rheumatology and have certification in medical assisting. Everyday is a busy one for the MA's (medical assistants) and there often seen dashing through the halls attending to various needs of the healthcare provider and the patient. You can tell from their smiles that they love what they do and they truly enjoy the patients of the practice. There are many more items which could be listed here that MA's are responsible for but the focus of every task is taking care of the patient. It's safe to say, without their hard work the office would not run as smoothly as it does.
